Make Your Mac Scan to Folder Work Again By Enabling SMB1

Mac’s can be a total pain in the ass at times when working with scan to folder from a MFP printer/copier. After OS X was updated to 10.9 I found that the scan to folder quicksets which previously worked without a hitch began failing. Why? Well, Apple decide to use SMB2 protocol instead and the backwards compatibility to SMB1 is total shit. There is a work around though that will have your Mac using the SMB1 protocol by default. To get this done open up a terminal session and type the following command:

echo “[default]” >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo “smb_neg=smb1_only” >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf

if you need to go back to using SMB2 you can use the following command in the terminal to delete the configuration we did with the previous command:

rm ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
